With the holidays only a couple of days away, I want to share my tips for making sure that your dinner turns out absolutely fabulous.

First, I'd like to say that it is not safe to have large gatherings, given the current circumstances around the world. However, if you choose to have a small gathering with your loved ones, these tips are sure to make your life easier and make you look like the host(ess) with the mostest! -- No one wants to be stressing about dinner the day of, which is why my first tip is:
Plan Ahead: It sounds like a no-brainer, but during the holidays we are pulled in so many directions that we may completely forget about dinner. Planning ahead is key to a successful soiree. Make sure you know the headcount, and clarify any dietary restrictions with your guests, which brings me to my second tip;
Cook and Prep Ahead: We're starting to see a pattern here, but trust me -- your sanity will thank you. Once you have a headcount and a clear direction on dietary restrictions, you can start planning your menu. Take some time to prep in advance. Cook your appetizers and any dishes that you can refrigerate; or freeze, so the day of the party all you have to do is reheat and display. No one wants to be slaving over the stove while your guests are arriving. Which brings me to my third tip;
Have a Signature Drink or Cocktail Ready: Whether you're hosting for a couple of people, or a dozen, this tip is sure to make you look like a pro. You want your guests to feel welcome, and having a cocktail/mocktail, a glass of Champagne or any other drink ready for them to have when they arrive will for sure gain you some brownie points. It also buys you time, if for some reason you are finalizing those finishing touches in the kitchen. This brings me to my fourth tip;
Make an Appetizer: Along with having a drink ready for your guests when they arrive, providing them with an appetizer to munch on while dinner is served will also gain you some brownie points. Remember, your guests are coming over for dinner, which means they probably haven't eaten in a while, and may be hungry. Having one or a couple of appetizers will buy you time until everyone arrives, and also encourages interactions because they can talk among themselves about the food, or ask you questions about the recipe. It doesn't have to be anything complicated -- for my last dinner, I made little kabobs with mozzarella cheese, cherry tomatoes and cheese tortellini. I also added some balsamic and olive oil as a dressing. I love making my guests feel comfortable, and cooking elegant but simple food, which brings me to my next tip;

5. Keep Things Simple: No matter the number of guests you're expecting, keep it simple. It will make it easier on you, and also allow you to enjoy your time with your friends. Pick a dish that would work for everyone -- my go-to -- is a plant-based dish because it always sits well with everyone. I am also plant-based, which is why I will have a plant-based dish, and I love giving my guests a new take on plant-based cuisine. Choose something you're comfortable with making, and run with it.
I hope these tips are useful, and your holiday dinner turns out fabulous. Make sure you and your guests are safe and following safety guidelines, and enjoy the company of your loved ones. After this crazy year, it is nice to have a moment to show appreciation to those we love. Wishing you a happy holiday and a fantastic new year. XO - Yaro
