Projects start to come together and final color decisions have been made, also some more Ikea hacks!!! :D
Week three of the #ORC by @betterhomesandgardens is here. This week was a little challenging; lots of missing items (not delivered yet), and finalizing those last minute decisions that will affect the outcome of the way the room ends up looking. During the last two weeks, I have been trying to get all the building and construction projects out of the way. Week one, was painting. Weeks 2-4 is all furniture building and more painting!!
For weeks 5-6, my plan is to finalize all those last minute touches and make sure everything looks perfect (the way it does in my head), this can be a little daunting because of my perfectionist tendencies, lol.
One of the biggest projects I am working on for this space is incorporating a credenza in the room. I sourced the "TARVA" dresser from Ikea, which was sold out for week! -- I finally got lucky, and was able to grab one, a week ago! -- Went to Ikea during my lunch break, picked it up and back to work. Thankfully, "Ikea" is only 10 minutes away from my house. SCORE! Haha.

This dresser is perfect for the project I am working on because it is a blank canvas. I finally decided what color I will painting it -- This will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
Like the previous week, I picked up some lattice from "Home Depot" and came home to get those miter edges using my miter box. However, the night before (Wednesday) I lost power at home and it did not come back until the next morning -- that did not stop me. I cut all these lattice pieces by hand using candlelight -- I, now, have a new found respect for all of our ancestors, lol.

It was struggle to cut all these pieces with barely any light, but I got it done, which shows that when there's a will, there's a way.

I also picked up some wooden stakes because my vision for this credenza is for it to have a "reclaimed wood" finish. I am playing with manipulating the elements I am working with to achieve this look on the front of the drawers. I am also framing this finish using the lattice cutouts. The hardware I sourced and have been waiting for is all in a brass finish.

My idea for these two "Ikea" pieces is to create vibrant pieces of furniture that compliment the space and each other. I used the frame idea and handles to connect the shoe storage piece from the previous week to my credenza.

Again, thank you so much for following along, and stay tuned for more progress. To check out the amazing progress entries of all the other designers and creators, head to the @oneroomchallenge blog
